This person was my grandfather, my mother's dad. he was a POW at Stanley and I have a drawing he did of his cell whilst he was there.
He was a "Diver" not Driver. and I have a photo of him in his diving bell which he wore whilst laying pipework under the harbour form the Island to HK.
Many thanks for this information, as I did not know whereabouts in South Africa he was born or when he left. I'm so grateful that I can now fill in more of the gaps that I have on my grandfather's life as my mother, his daughter Robina, died 7yrs ago and I have just decided to build up a Family history of my life in Hong Kong.

Thanks for the extra information and the sketch. Any other photos or memories of his time in Hong Kong will be good to see.
He is mentioned on page J 201 of the Blue Book for 1933 as working as a diver for the Water Works, starting work there on 20 Jan 1933.
