Ron Hardwick was married to Dorothy Coates, and my mother, Belle Reed, was her godmother. Dorothy had a sister Helen. Dorothy was a flight attendant at Cathay Pacific and used to visit my mother at our Nathan Road flat before she was married. The Hardwicks lived in a house in Kowloon Tong on York Road at the time, next door to the Triggs family who lived at #1, at the corner of York and Waterloo Road. Across from the Triggs house was the large mustard-colored house owned by the Figureido family. I remember Dorothy and Ron had a daughter Denise. They eventually moved to Australia but Dorothy stayed in touch with my mother.
I remember Ron as back in 1961/2 My parents Eric and Reva Gabriel bought a flat in Clearwater Bay Apts. G-3 if my memory serves me correctly. I believe Ron and family were our neighbors. Also Dad was one of the founding members of the Hebe Haven Yacht Club where we kept our "cabin cruiser" Balorè and I'm sure we saw the Hardwick family there.. but can't be sure ... 60 years ago is a long time!
Hi Angie, my mother Dorthy turned 90 this year and is still going strong. I told her about this message and about Aunty Belle her godmother who she remembers very fondly. Mum is living in Sydney. Best regards, Matt
Matt, I appreciated hearing from you and your comments about your mother, Dorothy. I was scrolling through some of my past posts just recently and came across your post. I trust your mother is keeping well and hope you will convey to her my warm regards. Best regards to you too, Angela.
Hi Angela, I’m now sitting with my mum Dorothy and came across your reply in April. Mum is now 92 and still going strong. Mums sister Helen passed away last year in June 2022. Mum sends her regards and hopes you are all well. Regards Matt
Hi again, Matt, happy to hear from you and that your mother is doing well. I'm sorry to hear of your Aunt Helen's passing and send my condolences to your mother and family. I came across a photo of Dorothy and Helen with my mother, taken at The Repulse Bay Hotel during my parents' honeymoon in 1939. If I can locate this photo I will be happy to share it with you.
I left Hong Kong for Seattle in November 1974. My mother joined me in April 1993, when she was almost 85. She passed away in March 2000, a month shy of her 91st birthday. In her later years in Hong Kong she became a kindergarten teacher until she retired. My father, Willie Reed, passed away in 1971 when he was only 65. I now reside in Kirkland, Washington.
I've posted some photos of my parents and wrote about my mother on this website. If you are interested, you can access her page by entering the People category listed under the Directory. Click on the Alias/nickname column, type Belle in the box above and click apply. Her full name will come up as Anna Joaquina Maria Reed (her maiden name was D'Almada e Castro). Thanks again for your responses to my comments. My warm regards to you and your mother.

I joined Cathay Pacific in 1974 and remember Ron very well. If his account of the airline is located I too would be most interested to read it

I assume this is the same Ron Hardwick who raced at Macau from 1956 to 1961 and actually won the Macau Grand Prix in 1959 driving a Jaguar XKSS.
