Patrick Henry Murray was the son of Jacob Murray who was born in Ningpo, so brought up in the Far East himself. He was probably born in 1866 as he was 21 when he married the 19 year old Lucretia Maria Reed at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in 1887. The couple had their first child at 9 Morrison Hill Road the same year as my grandparents, Charles and Hannah Warren had theirs at no. 31. I noticed that P.H. Murray and his sister-in-law, Margaret Annie Bond owned nos. 7 & 8 Broadwood Road in 1918 and onwards, shortly after Broadwood Road was developed and were once again neighbours of my grandparents. Patrick died at 209 Wanchai Road, where the family seems to have owned several properties as well as in Broadwood Road. According to Carl Smith, Patrick and Lucretia had five daughters and a son, P.R. Murray who left Hong Kong to work in Shanghai. One daughter, Letitia, died only six weeks after Patrick himself in 1927.
