His mother, Rose Hughes Greaves, died in 1937 at the early age of 49 at her residence in Robinson Road. His father, A. P. Greaves, was a member of the Hong Kong Sharebrokers' Association.
His wartime escape and membership of the BAAG, referred to by Mr. Ching, are also mentioned in G. B. Endacott and Alan Birch, Hong Kong Eclipse (1978, p. 196). According to this source, he took ship for Macao (presumably with Japanese permission) and then with the help of the British Consul went on to Kwongchouwan and then Gweilin.
