The most relevant entry regarding Canton Road concerning the mentioned time period is:
1st Sept 1957, in order to inprove the frequent traffic jam in Shanghai Street, traffic had been diverted.
Shanghai Street become south bound only (just like today);
Battery Street, Reclamation Street and a section of Canton Road nearby become north bound only;
In this respect, Ngau Chi Wan bound traffic of route 14 would switch to Reclaimation Street, Mongkok Road, Canton Road and turn east at Prince Edward Road;
North bound bus stops of the affected section had been relocated to #39, #83 & #129 Battery Street; #175, #267, #361, 419A & #473 Reclaimation Street; #1129 Canton Road;
Credits should be given to the administrators or contributors of the local Bus Fandom page. Unfortunately it is only Chinese\Cantonese only for that database. There are actually MANY transportation enthusiasts of anything in town.

Hi T - my first thoughts. Looking at current maps, it would appear that section of Canton Road where 1077A is located is not as wide as shown in the main photo.
The buildings of that section of Canton Road had been rebuilt over the decades. The current section is sort of a mix of wet\dry market place with stalls on both sides. Should be wide enough for two lane traffic.
May have to check older maps and photos of the 1950's. Like I said, I was just ripping off info from the Bus Fandon page. :-P
I am still trying to go through all those signages though. No further luck. Might take a while.

Found some of them that might be related to present day shops\stores in the neighbourhood. Old businesses tend to stay in the same area\district:
1. 和平藥行 - There is a current one called 和平藥房 in Shanghai Street;
2. 鴻安堂熟藥 - There is a registed address of a 鴻安堂on #162 Reclamation Street, probably out-dated as Street View did not show it;
3. 鴻昌燒臘 - There is a current one in Kweilin Street in SSP, which had opened for over three decades, unable to confirm if these two are related;
Unable to verify the big signage of 上海酒家 in the photo.
Further look up may involve looking collection of older photos of street photographers of the time, and\or business directories. Likely a trip to the Central Library.
Should be 1937. The number 9 had a "hook" at the end that resembled the number 8 when looking at the date at an angle. Similar to the date on this old building here
This was the junction of Shanghai Street/Dundas Street looking north. Shanghai Restaurant (上海酒家) was a landmark of this junction. Besides Canton Rd. is narrower than shown in the picture. Northbound route of No.14 was via Reclamination Street and southbound via Shanghai Street.

Looking at Gwulo's 1956 Kowloon Street Map for that section of Canton Road, I think you are right. Good luck on the signages.

On the façade near the roof of the building left front is a number : 1837 (as I read it). No clue for that.
Further down the road is a sign reading "Aureole". Couldn't find anything about this.

Yes moddsey, 1937 makes much more sense. Number 9 on this building resembles much to the one on the buildingon Shanghai Street.
