My mothers maiden name is Chinoy, it is believed that their ancestors were once merchants from India who ran stores across china, in Peking they had a shop named Tai poo hong (which apparently translates into big drapery store), they lived in the far east until my GG Grand father Omar Abdul Rehman decided to come back to Bombay, India.

I recently found records of them in the china directory where my 6th GGF 'Haji Mamod(Mahomed), Rana' ran a shop in Macau on 29,31 rua central between 1881-1900's then shifted to 51,52 Rua central with his sons, Ramtoola and Abdool. in the same directory I also found over time new names apart from his sons listed under his shop 'Alarakia Mahomed, Allee M.J Albamia (this is after shifting to 51,52 Rua central updated in the 1905 directory) I was able to trace through the directory that Haji Mamods son Ramtoola shifted base to hong kong and opened a shop at #16 & 18 D'Aguilar street in 1906 along with another gentleman by the name of Sayed Abdool Careem (Unsure of how they are connected) by the directory. In 1912 (i think) there appears to be a new show in 49, Rua central Macau run by Elias. R and A Rahmtoola is mentioned here, I'm assuming Elias is the son of Ramtoola but the trail goes cold here, there was just one other record I could find of a civil servant name ' Mariam Ramtula Hajee Elias'  who worked in the financial service department of the government of Macau.

This is what I could find through the directory but it still doesn't capture the branch of Abdool from which our family has probably descended, also Haji Mamod Ranas father Cassim is supposed to have been the first one to travel to China, not sure how I'm going to find any records of him.

Any help is genuinely appreciated and thanks for taking the time to read this.
