I guess they were connected with the conduit in some way, but I'm not sure of their purpose. Thomas has noted "syphon wells" marked akong the conduit on the 1889 map of the area, and I wonder if the pillars are connected with them.
This is a southern most spot of the conduit that one could walk to. It is sort of a dead end as it runs under the private road of the Middleton Towers of HKU. <Read more ...>
