An interesting photo. The single tramline would suggest that it is the line to Shau Ki Wan, today's King's Road. Just guessing, perhaps, North Point or Quarry Bay near Tai Koo Dockyard.
There's a possible match for the buildings on the right in a photo on page 87 of "A century of Hong Kong Island roads and streets" by Cheng Po Hung. He captions his photo:
Shau Kei Wan Road in 1913. The row of houses in back of the tram was used for Taikoo Dockyard workers' quarters.
The photo at the top of this page wouldn't be from 1900, as the trams hadn't started then.
