I've recently started genealogical research and found out from information held by GRS/ PRO that my great grandfather and grandfather lived at 70 Kennedy Road (IL2074; closed lot) until the house was sold to the Catholic Church in 1950s; my grandfather moved to Happy Valley. According to Land Registry information 72 Kennedy Road seemed to be owned by Mr Fok and family (which based on Carl Smith collection notes had some business dealings with my great grandfather). Any photos of what used to stand at the present Amber Garden would also be much appreciated.

I've made this page for the building and moved your comment here to keep all the information on one page.

I've added a map to show the position and shape of the building. We've also got pages for 72 and 74 Kennedy Road that have photos which may also show 70.

Can you add any photos of 70, or information about when it was built or demolished?

Thank you for setting this up.

Unfortunately I do not have a photo of the house itself as family recordkeeping hasn't been optimal, and would be grateful for clearer views of it. The photos of No. 72 and 74 have been helpful, thanks.

I do have a photo (uploaded) from a Hong Kong Telegraph article dated 16 February 1934 reporting on his probate showing his address at 70 Kennedy Road.

When built - my great grandfather, Siu Un, who was well regarded in the construction business, was granted a Crown Lease for IL 2074 on 26 May 1914 for a renewable period of 75 years, this is when the family house was built.

When demolished - I know that members of the family continued to live there until 23 January 1950 when it was sold to the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Hong Kong and, subsequently it appears to have been sold to a number of other buyers in the 1970s, until the Lot was reverted to the Crown in 1979.
