George E. Baxter was the Hong Kong Bureau Manager of United Press. In 1942, Baxter was interned in Stanley Camp. His wife, Inez M. Baxter was trapped in Shanghai and interned in Chapei Camp.
Baxter was repatriated with other Americans on the Gripsholm in 1942 whilst his wife had to wait another year for her turn to be repatriated to the United States. Baxter's repatriation was announced in the News-Herald, Franklin, Pennsylvania on 19 June 1942 here

Not long after Inez M. Baxter had returned to the United States, George E. Baxter's death was announced in The Shanghai Evening Post And Mercury (based in New York) on 11 February 1944 here He was aged 53.
