The liner berthed at the Kowloon Wharves is probably one of the four R class liners built for P&O (Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co.) in 1925.

Comparing the photo with the 2 pictures from the book “P&O – A Fleet History” the ship in question is likely to be the RANCHI. The pair of rectangular windows directly below the bridge wings is a feature only seen in pictures of the RANCHI. After WW 2 the liner had a single funnel.

RANCHI – built 1925 Hawthorn Leslie & Co. Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

                 Two steam quadruple expansion 4 cylinder engines.

                 Broken up 1953 in the UK
