The late Ken Sly, who was Officer Commanding the outpost at Battys on the Peak in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and who had been a Lancaster pilot during the war, and an R.A.F. flying instructor in post war years, once told me that he often used one of the Austers to keep up his and other officers' flying hours - and the pay that went with it. When the new reclaimed runway was nearing completion in 1957/8, he carried out, 'take off and landing' trials to determine safe 'routes' onto and off the new runway.  (Andrew S)
