The old pathology buildings at QMH will be demolished soon.  Two old lamp posts still stand at the slope below the buildings.  They look old but we do not know how old.  Since QMH was established in 1937, they could be there for a long time.  I am wondering if anyone has a better idea on the origin of these lamps.

cheers.

That's a surprise to see they still exist!

They look like gas lamps to me. If you can get a closer look at the top of the lamps, can you see any details that confirm they were powered by gas?

Then a possible approach would be to ask the Public Works Department if they have any record of when the last new gas lamps were installed in Hong Kong. That would at least give an idea of what is the latest date they could have been installed.

Then I wonder who would be interested in preserving them? If the Hospital isn't interested, would the Hong Kong Museum of History want them? There aren't many of these old lamps left.

There is a thread with some more discussion about old gas lamps at https://gwulo.com/node/4572
