Identified by Herostratus as Junction of Yee Wo Street and Jardine's Bazaar. Probably more 1930's than 1940's.

Hi There,

The photographer has to be somewhat facing south owing to the hills.  Uncertain if it was SE or S.  Not SW or we should have seen the Peak.

By the look of the power lines, the location was a double trak location on a bend, but couldn't see the rails clearly.  Would have to try to roam free and see if something clicks.

The two major advertisements in the middle was Lactogen canned milk powder and Lypton tea below it.  In the early 1960's the Chinese name of the milk powder was 勒吐精, just the nearest Cantonese phonics.  Owing to the lack of high rise buildings, this photo is likely pre-1950.

If only someone could read the route of the Tram.........  That would be a big clue.  On the other hand, I wonder is that a pair of gas lights with a tram stop plate.

Later.

The location of the picture is the Junction of Hennessy Road & Yee Wo Street. The photographer is standing just to the West of where Sogo is today looking South East. Yee Wo street is the left hand street with the tram, Jardines Bazaar is the right hand narrower one. From the other pictures in the set the photo was likely taken in the late 1920s/early 1930s.

A wild guess...looks like the tram is westbound. Could its destination be Kennedy Town (fits with the four-character Chinese label)? I wonder if tram line went that far west in the 30s though.

Hi There,

Further scrutiny revealed there was likely two group of building there.  One on the Northern side and the other the Southern side of Tai Hang Road, right at the tight bend.

The white big building would seem to be the predecessor of the current Trafalgar Court.  There were some greyish shades in this photo, which may be the predecessor of the Grandview Mansions, and those behind them.  The other ariel photo uploaded by Klaus should have a better view of these.

After viewing the ariel photo, I began to wonder if this photo is of the 1950's.
