A much more recent photo of the Mo Tat Wan school, built in 1932, than the one which recently appeared on gwulo.com. This photo corroborates my earlier contention that the building is currently being used for storage, but is in a very delapidated condition and is unlikely to remain standing for much longer unless drastic remedial action to save it is taken.

Such a pity, in my view. I wonder if an approach to the Islands District Council would be of any use?

Following my earlier post on this subject, I wrote to both the Islands District Officer and the Secretariat of the Islands District Council regarding the state of this building. They responded to the effect that the building was subject to private management and that basically there was very little that they could do to “force” improvements to be made.

However they could refer the matter to the Buildings Office, which they have done, and that department have followed up the matter with the owner as it is obviously an unsafe structure.

We may yet see some progress regarding the condition of the school.
