I've come across and address that appears to have been in my family and was part of their estate. The funds from the sale of the home were distributed to the heirs in 1937, so the home was likely sold sometime prior to that. I'm not sure when. Strangely, I'm attempting to find out the name of the deceased. You'd thing I would know that, but all I have is "G" which could be refering to grandmother, or could be a name. My mother and her sister each inherited 1/4 of the proceeds. I wonder if anyone has photos of that location from way back in those days and if there are any public recored of property owners?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions,
Brian
Rate Books?
I haven't used them yet, but you could try the rate books, held at the Public Records Office. Here's an example:

Thanks David....I'll have a look.
Hong lists?
David,
I see the the HK-PRO lists the rate books but it appears one would have to go in person to look sometning up.
How about Desk Hongs or directories? Do you know of any for Hong Kongs from that era? I contacted Tess in Shanghai to see if she has anything on HK and will keep lookng locally.

Land Registry
I was under the impression that property deeds were available from Land Registry for a small fee ($25?). This should be able to tell you whose name was on the deed - but I have no idea how far the records go back..?
re: Land Registry
Good point Phil, that is accessible online and could answer Brian's question. More details at: http://gwulo.com/old-hong-kong-buildings
