RAF Tai Mo Shan - Project Cabbage Leaf 1958.

Project Cabbage Leaf was the construction of a new radar station at Tai Mo Shan in the New Territories of Hong Kong in 1958. The project was carried out by No2 (HongKong) Fitting Party from the Radio Engineering Unit, RAF Henlow. The fitting party was assisted by staff from the Signals Centre Hong Kong and 117 Signals Unit, Mount Davis. The construction of the FPS6 and FPS8 Radar Units was supervised by staff from a Communications Construction Squadron of the United States Air Force based at Clark Field in the Philipines.

In the photograph above the partly completed FPS6 tower can be seen on the left and the FPS8 tower to the right. In the centre the huts belonging to the civillian builders who put in the ground works. In the foreground are the mess, kitchen, administration tents and the Bedford 3 ton lorry which transported everyone to the site each day.
