Its role as the Magistracy was replaced by a new Magistracy building to the northeast, which opened some time in 1845-46.

This older building wasn't demolished, but underwent some conversion work. It is shown on later maps marked "Debtor's Prison".

Comments

In 1856 the 1851 guardhouses are demolished and new ones built in their place. A new Gaoler’s House is constructed. The original Debtor’s Gaol is demolished and a new one constructed.
