Private Ip Kwong Lau (Burma Star) - HKCR, Chindits

Ip Kwong Lau was recruited by the British in November 1941 to form the nucleus of the NCOs for the new Hong Kong Chinese Regiment.

Recruited for his language abilities (he spoke six or seven) and the jungle survival skills that he had learned in Burma, he had many responsibilities including acting as a decoy to bring enemies into SAS ambushes, or leading raiding parties against insurgents during the Malaysia-Indonesia confrontation.

He never rose above the rank of Corporal, preferring to stay an NCO. He ran restaurants in the UK and retired in Hong Kong.
