Any ideas where and what this was?
It says 19 milestone, presumably Castle Peak Road, which would put it in the Cafeteria Beach/Gordon Hard area.
Was there another 19 milestone on the eastern side of the NT near the cross-border lookouts? The entrance signs and stalls here appear to be geared up for tourists.
In this image, the stairs in the background appear to be rising with buildings beyond the stalls, whereas the café in the 1980s at Tuen Mun as I remember it, was below the main road and at virtually beach level and hidden in trees.
I don’t recognize this image as The Dragon Inn entrance.

海角龍樓

I think you may have found out one of the purposes of our mysterious Castle Peak house. I put a search into Google for 海角龍樓 (the characters on the sign) and was given a link to a Facebook post by "屯門舊照片Tuen Mun Old Photos" group. They have taken one of Gwulo's photos and filled in some details. See below. Note just below and left of the house is what appears to be the same archway and signpost seen in your image. So it seems that later in life the house might have become the "19 Mile Cafe". The 1963 aerial images on hkmaps.hk also appear to show the archway on the house's driveway, next to a large carpark. This might also explain why the property location now houses another restaurant? The image search for 海角龍樓 also returns mainly views of the house.
Re: 19 Miles Castle Peak Road
Hi there,
That would be around the Castle Peak Bay Beach area, where the Dragon Inn was located a bit up the slopes. The beach would be just further left of the 19 Miles Cafe sign.

Restaurant/cafe
Almost there, but we still don't know when the house became a cafe/restaurant, or if it was purpose built for that reason (the shape makes it seem unlikely) and whether or not it had any private residents in its lifetime. Still, at least we now know what it was in its later years.
