1979 - Yim Tin Tsai Catholic Church

This image of the somewhat derelict looking St Joseph’s Chapel (聖若瑟堂 – Sing Yeuk-Sat Tong) at Yim Tin Tsai (鹽田仔) near Sai Kung (not to be confused with the similarly named place - 鹽田仔 - near Tai Po ) was captured by Dr Hugh Baker, and is reproduced in his book: Baker, Hugh, More Ancestral Images: A Second Hong Kong Album, South China Morning Post Limited, Hong Kong 1980.

The weathered Chinese characters, arranged in the traditional manner from right to left, read Tin Jue Tong Heavenly Lord Hall, which is how “Catholic Church” is represented in Chinese characters.

N.B., “moddsey’s” AMO Historic Building Appraisal link provided in the "Shows place(s):" section below, from which the Chinese characters for St Joseph’s Chapel have been lifted by me, is a fabulously informative read.
