This image of the somewhat derelict looking St Joseph’s Chapel (聖若瑟堂 – Sing Yeuk-Sat Tong) at Yim Tin Tsai (鹽田仔) near Sai Kung (not to be confused with the similarly named place - 鹽田仔 - near Tai Po ) was captured by Dr Hugh Baker, and is reproduced in his book: Baker, Hugh, More Ancestral Images: A Second Hong Kong Album, South China Morning Post Limited, Hong Kong 1980.
The weathered Chinese characters, arranged in the traditional manner from right to left, read Tin Jue Tong – Heavenly Lord Hall, which is how “Catholic Church” is represented in Chinese characters.
N.B., “moddsey’s” AMO Historic Building Appraisal link provided in the "Shows place(s):" section below, from which the Chinese characters for St Joseph’s Chapel have been lifted by me, is a fabulously informative read.
