1910 - Stanley Peninsula

This 1910 photographic image appears in Cheng Po Hung, A Century of Hong Kong Island Roads and Streets, Joint Publishing (H.K.) Company Limited, Hong Kong 2001.

The accompanying caption reads: Stanley in 1910. Next to Stanley Main Beach on the left is Stanley Beach Road.

To the right of centre in the mid-ground of this image, through a break in the ridge-line, the viewer is able to catch a glimpse of the stark-white, imposing, two-story, mid-19th century Stanley Police Station (1859), with its commanding view looking down on the long-established settlement of Chek Chue (Stanley Village), and out across Chek Chue Wan (Stanley Bay).

This same view, in its colourized version, was first posted on Gwulo by “annelisec”. See: Cape Stanley | Gwulo
