first commerce college in HK began at 28 Caine Road(*), well before 1920s

Sacred Heart Canossian College of Commerce (1905-2014) was founded by Italian missionary Clelia Martinelli, which was intended to provide commerce knowledge to female students. It became the first commerce college in Hong Kong.

Sister Clelia arrived in Hong Kong on 16 Feb 1905. [1]
During that era, the institution is known as Italian Convent School. As a 2013 SCMP article, the first class consisted of 25 girls from English, Portuguese, Irish and Chinese families who attended the convent school.

The book clipping above is from the Directory and Chronicle 1919. [2]
Under English School, there is a list of Special Subjects. Similar subject is shown since the directory of 1916 :

Typewriting and Stenography - Sr. Clelia

We also see some other subjects like English Lessons for Chinese Ladies. (+)

As early as the 1891 directory published, this one-liner description has been carried :

The Italian Convent, in Caine Road, educates a large number of girls, and brings up many orphans gratuitously.

Some detailed work of the mission on this site may be read from above clipping.
