Sorry about the condition of this photo, but this was the best I could do. It was taken at the South China Morning Post staff Christmas party in 1959 and published a few days later. Jill, who was a colleague on the reporting staff of the Post, organised a few of us, none with any stage experience, to rehearse and perform a song she had rewritten from Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado. So here we are (from left) Steve Dunleavy, an Australian reporter who gained later fame as a top crime reporter on the New York Post, then Jill, and finally yours truly as Peek-a-boo-hoo singing Three Little Scamps From The Post Are We. As I remember it, there was scattered applause, obviously for Jill and her optimism in thinking that Steve and I could hold a melody. I seem to remember someone shouting "don't give up your day job".
