1962 Annual Boxing Day bowls match between HK Electric Company expats and local staff at Cavendish Heights

Annual Boxing Day bowls match 1962, held at the HK Electric senior staff quarters at Cavendish Heights in Jardine's Lookout. The annual match between HK Electric expat and local staff was originally held at the Indian Recreation Club in Sookunpoo. My Dad, David Bottomley, is seated second from right in the front row. They are standing/sitting just in front of the viewing deck outside the HK Electric Club House.

Woah.

Lawn Bowls, HK Electic, I.R.C. That intersection means a near 100% chance a relation of mine would be in it. In fact I think my grandfather is there - sat down 4th from left - Mohammed I. Razack.

Thanks Rob! Any more photos?

You're welcome David. Great that you can recognise your grandfather here. I do have another one of these from 1963, so will try and upload that in the next few days. I'll also post the names of the people I do recognise in due course.

I remember Phil "Bungy" Williams (1918-1988), his wife June (nee Winterton) and their three children Simon, Sarah and Peter. Simon was my age. They lived three floors above us at Cavendish. As far as I can tell Phil Williams is not in this photo. I don't know if he was a bowler or not. They left HK around 1967 I think.

Rob, my mum randomly coughed this little gem up. My grandfather is on the extreme left. Given he is wearing the same outfit I am wondering if it was the same event and location in 1962? I am not familiar with the HK Electric senior staff quarters at Cavendish Heights in Jardine's Lookout but it does look like the same location as your photo.

You recognise the place and anyone?

Hi David

What a great action shot! Yes, this is the bowling green at Cavendish Heights. Pretty sure the man standing at the back in glasses and a dark jumper with his hands on his hips is my Dad, David Bottomley! The fair-haired man with the sunglasses, standing behind the man who is pointing with his left hand, looks like Ian MacKelvie. Judging by what my Dad is wearing, this would be from the 1963 Annual Boxing Day Match. Not sure I posted that group photo on here, but I emailed it to you. The Clubhouse was at the back and I seem to remember a lot of San Mig flowing out of those doors on a hot day!
