Text on Flickr: Ft Thomas Cooney SJ testing the Markree refractor after it was set up in Hong Kong. Again, it was used in the open as it had been at Markree. The Japanese bombed the telescope in 1941 taking it for an AA gun, Thankfully the OG was saved and presented to the Manila Observatory where it still resides.
Unfortunately, no date is given. The telescope was set up originally in Markree, Sligo, Ireland in the 1830-1850's (see Wikipedia). This observatory was used until 1902. After that date the telescope was shipped to Hong Kong and set up at the Reginal Seminary for South China (now the Holy Spirit Seminary, Aberdeen), see also http://gwulo.com/atom/25124 from around 1935. Used this date for this one, too.
