Hong Kongs only tea plantation [130 acres] was established in the early 1950s by Brook Bernacchi QC OBE on the Ngong Ping plateau, Lantao. The tea, mainly green teas were sold locally under the name of " Lotus Brand" tea until the late 1980's. The Government re-entered the tea farm permit land in the 1990s although the tea bushes, about 130,000 of them are still there and growing wild.

Hi there,

In the 1980's there were a few horses there for those who fancy a ride..  They were mostly retired racing hourses.  In the past decade I have walked by the path multiple times.  The buildings in the area are genuinely intact with some broken windows and/or roof tiles.

There was also the place I nearly bump into a very big spider net across the path face first..

Thank you both for the update on the old tea plantation. It is very interesting to learn what has become of the places and buildings that I visited all those years ago. I have heard of the tea brand.  Would anyone be allowed to pick some of the leaves, dry them and make a cup,of tea - or is that illegal now?  Andrew
