Doug was on the western side of Repulse Bay, probably on Island Road, when he took his photo across the Bay towards Middle Bay, the beach to the right of the photo. Zooming-in on his photo shows a row of sizeable huts along the beach and the rocks to its left. They have all gone by today, but whoever demolished them did a hopeless job of clearing up the mess afterwards. The rocks, and that end of the beach, are still littered with the ruins of their foundations. I wonder if they were demolished as part of the Governments squatter hut clearance initiative in the 80's or at some other time for some other reason?
Back in the 1970's there were still such huts in Middle Bay, South Bay, and even Stanley Beach. Those are not for living. Instead, they are up for biddig for organizations for the rights to use them for recreation use for a certain period of time.
I am uncertain if all of them had been demolished, however. I have not been to South Bay and Stanley Beach for a few decades.........
