Hi there,

I could only make out from the slope at the background to decide the site in question is a bit more up the slope.  I have no idea what am I look at though.  Terraces like this are everywhere back then.

Best Regards,

T

I think Thomas is on to something with the slope in the background. If we were looking south towards a mid-levels building, we'd expect the hillside to fill the background of the photo. So, with this one we're either:

  • looking south but at the western end of mid-levels, or
  • further east but facing west

Annelise, if we were looking at the original, could we make out the structure in the lower right corner? It looks as though it's a bridge with railings, over a nullah or watercourse perhaps?

Hi there,

Ugh, that would be obvious if the garden was its own name's sake........  Was it the Queen's Garden?  If that is so, I had been wondering if that was a location around what you were familiar with and that would have been somewhere around the LRC......  Anyway.........

Best Regards,

T

Hi there,

I had had an impression on the slope/ridge in the background upon first glance that it would have to be somewhere further up the slope in Sheung Wan, in the neighbourhood of Ladder Street.  Look's like my hunch had the better judgement.

From the then & now photo in flickr that would put the Idlewild on Seymour Road.  I am familiar with the area but I know nothing about the Ho Tung Residence there.

Best Regards,

T
