HT Wong 1910s Midlevels Road

This photo was posted on HT Wong's flickr account recently, entitled "1910s Midlevels Road". I didn't recognize the location but wondered if Gwulo could identify it based on the information on the the gatepost in the foreground which bears the name "E. D. C. Wolfe", and less clearly a number - perhaps "123".

The number is confirmed by the 1919 Peak Directory (https://gwulo.com/node/7159) and the 1919 Ladies Directory (https://gwulo.com/ladies-directory-1919) which list Mr and Mrs E. D. C. Wolfe as residents of No.123 The Peak. Herostratus's very useful explaination of Peak renumbering over the years (https://gwulo.com/node/34922) tells us that, from 1914 to 1924, No.123 The Peak was called "The Bracket". Photos of The Bracket are at https://gwulo.com/node/7706, comparison with which confirm that the building on the left of the old photo and The Bracket are indeed one and the same.

Further digging around reveals E.D.C. Wolfe to have been Edward Dudley Corscaden Wolfe (https://gwulo.com/node/20799), a civil servant whose posts included Acting Inspector of Schools (https://gwulo.com/node/19577) and Captain Superintendent of Police (https://gwulo.com/node/19569).

The power of Gwulo as a research tool!
