The small island at right is Little Green Island (小青洲).
I believe that the smoke visible in this image was engine exhaust from the ferry funnel [no, see below].
Penhahk answered: the smoke was from Incinerator facilities in Kennedy town.
Although only the chimney is visible, the smoke cannot be overlooked.

Hi there,
Until 1993 there had been a garbage incinerator at Kennedy Town. I believe the smoke was from their chimney.
