Protecting Hong Kong Names

Hi all,

For years(actually from childhood) I can't help but notice that there is a lot of confusion on the geographic divisions of neighbourhoods in Hong Kong. The more research I did, the more I have found there has been a vast amount of manipulation from the Establishment (real estate developers, the government, the MTRC, etc.) on our perception of this space that we live in. It is chaotic and full of contradictions at the moment, and actions should taken to protect our heritage.

To fight back I have started a pressure group called Protecting Hong Kong Names where we could start questioning our spatial awareness of our city and the naming of our suburbs. We are starting to get the attention of the general public, but the more help we get the better. The content is in Chinese at the moment, however I would definitely introduce English content if there is enough interest. Any support from you would be helpful.

You are also welcome to contact me at protecthknames@gmail.com should you have any questions.

Thank you,

Protecting Hong Kong Names

Hi acklbbc,

It would be great if there is English content on your page.  I agree with you that it does not make sense to call neighbourhoods by the MTR station names when there are already existing names (e.g. "Tin Hau" is part of Causeway Bay, "Jordan" is Kwun Chung, "Prince Edward" is part of Mongkok).  Keep up the good work!
