This photograph and the others submitted this Sunday morning were taken bewteen 6th July and 13th July 1946 by a crew man from the aircraft carrier HMS Queen.

I am the author of "The History of HMS Queen - A World War II Lend Lease Escort Aircraft Carrier." My book contains a considerable number of other photographs of Hong Kong harbour taken from The Peak. Another shows the arches forming Bowen Road. The book contains various anecdotal stories from the crew.

Hello David,

Thank you for finding my website which will be closed down in a few days time - 30th April 2014. I found that it does not help sell my book.

Perhaps I might indulge and let people know that copies of my book are still available and it does offer an interesting Christmas present for anyone with an interest in WWII history and the Royal Navy. The presentation box contains:- the book, one DVD showing 853 Naval Air Squadron operating in the first half of 1945, one CD-ROM PDF format of the book plus a lot of research material not in the printed version, six very large drawings showing all the deck levels from the keel to the topmast. It took me six years to find the drawings.

I recently gave a presentation concerning the book to members of the HK Medals Society which also inluded members of the Royal Asiatic Society at the Police Officers Club. I have an interesting photograph of HMS Queen at anchor in the HK harbour and I am intending to approach the Marine Dept for some informal help to try and establish her Lat/Long. I am curious to see where this features in the present day harbour.

The photographs recently posted are very small and lacking in resolution so I think it doubtful if they can be enlarged successfully.

Regards,

David W
