Original held at Imperial War Museum, their ref: A 30749

HM Transport EMPRESS OF AUSTRALIA, the first transport to arrive in Hong Kong after the re-occupation steaming into Victoria Harbour with 3000 RAF personnel who will take up duties in the Crown Colony.

Barbara Anslow mentions the ship arriving on 4th Sep 1945, so that's the date I've set for the photo.

Thanks to Moddsey for locating the photo.

With magnification, towards the extreme right is the Chna Fleet Club and a sunken vessel in the water and towards the stern, the white building that is visible on the waterfront is the Wanchai Police Station (2nd Generation).

Hello,

I'm hoping to find-out where/how passengers boarded the "Empress" in August 1945. My mother and family took the ship back to England on release from Stanley Camp. Any help would be much appreciated. Best, Robert
