1975. In the New Terr. HK a very large wild boar had invaded the patch around a local village eating its way thro their crops. When they tried to shoo it away it was so big that it turned and shooed them away. It enjoyed this fun so much that its nature turned and it now started to hunt down and attack the villagers injuring several and biting and chewing some to hospital. We were called in to deal. Hunting these things is dangerous because they like to hunt you and will get in front of you hiding and invisible in hollows/ long grass. When you are about 20' away they will just charge at you straight thro bushes, obstructions, anything and then rip upwards with their tusks into your groin, stomach area and they eat your insides. YES it is that serious and this is what they like to do. Anyway we tracked this one and we saw that at the start of each day the Boar liked to climb a mound and survey his kingdom before setting off to eat and terrorise the locals. On the morning of the 3 days tracking about 3am I set up a site and waited. As the sun rose behind me the Boar came and stood and surveyed his kingdom. About 100 yards away I used the .223. AR 15 HB with a 4x colt scope and looked at him as he looked at me (the sun behind me) Through the scope I saw he knew something but not what. The Boar has a triangular fold of skin from his ears to a point between the eyes.It was on this that I sighted and squeezed. The boar just flopped down and it was instant. You can tell because the body and legs go to jelly as they flop, if they are a bit stiff or twitchey then it isn't clean. Later the Ballistics Officer and Gov't vet examined the animal. The head of the Boar was looked at and held upside down on the exam table by the jaw bones and released. The whole head then flattened out like a pancake. Such was the explosive power of the bullet used that there wasn't a square inch of aeriated skull bone that wasn't shattered and the Ballistics Officer recovered bullet fragments to the weight of the original bullet. (this is done to prove that the bullet or fragments of it have gone winging off somewhere to kill or injure someone else) and the Govt vet when he saw the injuries to the villagers and the size of the beast was satisfied that the proper course of action had been taken. Later the villagers had a BBQ of the Boar, it ate some of them so it was only right that they eat it and I still have one of the tusks presented to me by the village as a thank you. I heard the rest of the tusk/teeth went into a necklace for the village elder. This is why such a nice piggy type animal is so dangerous. They lie in long grass/shrubs and wait for you, as you get near they instantly in seconds charge and gore you to death and because of the terrain it is impossible to quickly bring to bear long guns, and remember the same as pigs, they don't bite things off you clean, they bite, hold on and whipping their head back and fore they rip pieces off you and then they start to enjoy it and do it even more and then they feed.(on you) Hope you enjoyed this story. It is fact.
