looking at this photo, I feel like I was in there somewhere, I used this station everyday to get a train to Tai Po for my secondary school, I had never  paid a single train fare back in those days.

I was born in Sheung Shui and if the pic taken time was correct, it reminds me a lot of old memories. I started my secondary school in 1974 and used to take the KCR from Sheung Shui to Tai Po to my school, one of the best in those days! Same as the previous comment, I seldom bought tickets charged at 25 cents per single trip as KCR never checked the ticket at the one and only one gate which is located on the right hand side of the pic. In fact, you didnt need to go through the gate to leave the station (see the boys on the other side of the platform) as there were too many open areas that you could leave the train station freely. I lived in a small wooden house in Choi Yuen Village in the far end of the station where the locomotive stopped and I never needed to go through the gate! The single deck bus on the left hand side should be coming back from Yuen Long of either route no 16 or 17 (renamed 76 and 77 respectively in 1973). Back in those days, there were only buses to Yuen Long, Tai Po, Sha Tau Kok or Jordan Road from Sheung Shui. The one to Jordan was either route no 19 (via Lion Rock Tunnel) or 19A (via Tai Po Road) but 19 was changed to route no 70 in 1973 while 19A was cancelled. The one to Tai Po was route no 73 (set up in 1973 after 19A was cancelled) which I sometimes took it to go to school as it charged only at 15 cents (with a valid half price student pass) ....
